Fee Structures

“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”
–Warren Buffet

With experience representing independent local labor organizations over a decade, we have learned that financial transparency is as important as legal clarity. We are truly passionate about the self-determination of local labor, and we structure our pricing to make expert legal counsel accessible to unions of all sizes. Our goal is to empower your organization with predictable, value-based fee options that allow you to budget effectively while receiving the representation you need to navigate complex labor relations and maintain your independence.

Flexibility

Like every community, every independent local union is unique. Pricing that works for an organization with over a thousand members simply doesn’t apply to a group of ten. And sometimes a group of ten may not have even formed an organization yet. We understand that every local union is different and that demands a flexible approach to pricing our services to give value. So Community Labor Legal Consulting is committed to offering free initial consultations to potential clients, where we will engage with you specifically on your organization’s needs. Once we have identified your unique needs, we present you with a wide array of fee options and work with you to set up the specific structure that works for your local union.

Options

Subscription Based Fees

Based on the size of your organization, you will be able to choose between several tiers of legal and advisory services for which your union will pay an associated non-refundable monthly fee. You are not locked into any longer period of time, and you may change your subscription service tier as your organization’s needs change. With this structure, our clients have the security of ongoing, predefined, personalized legal advice that can be adjusted quickly as their needs require.

Flat Fees

Sometimes your union may have a specific legal need that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the subscription-based service tiers. When this issue arises, Community Labor Legal Consulting can present you with a wide array of specific legal solutions that are tailored to your local’s needs. Our experience working in the independent local labor space allows us to set reasonable and defined non-refundable flat fees for those specific services, with no surprise hourly billing overages.

Retainers

One of the traditional means of paying for legal counsel, a retainer is a sum of money paid to a lawyer in order to guarantee the lawyer’s availability in the future. A retainer is not payment for past legal services and is not payment for future services. Our firm’s retainers are non-refundable, but are clearly defined after consideration of your union’s need for our future availability.

Hourly Billing

Despite the many benefits of flexible subscription or fixed fee pricing, there are still times when the client’s needs are actually best served by traditional hourly billing. In those cases, Community Labor Legal Consulting will clearly identify where hourly billing may be appropriate, and engage with you on how we will manage your specific legal matter effectively and efficiently. And our hourly bills will only be for actual billable legal work. We do not bill our clients for non-attorney staff work on client matters.

Costs

Costs in the context of our legal representation are expenses that arise, separate from legal fees themselves, that must be paid during the representation. These can include such items as court filing fees, service of process, court reporting services, expert witness retention, or travel on behalf of the client. These costs are the responsibility of the client unless specifically agreed otherwise in writing. However, our firm will never bill you for our own internal business costs, such as for copies, postage, or office supplies.

Transparency

At Community Labor Legal Consulting, we believe that transparency is essential to building trust and maintaining strong relationships with our clients. We understand that legal fees can often feel confusing or unpredictable. This is why we are committed to clear, upfront communication regarding all fees and costs associated with our services. Before any work begins, we will provide a detailed breakdown of the pricing structure that applies to your union’s specific needs. Throughout our representation, we will keep you informed of any unanticipated costs or fees that arise, ensuring that there are no surprises along the way. All of our fee agreements are in writing and fully explained, and we are always available to answer any questions you may have about the cost of legal services. Our focus on transparency ensures that you can make informed decisions and receive the value you expect from our services.
